South African Conference on Industrial Process Tomography – March 2012

The Cape Town conference drew in around 50 delegates from 14 different countries. Over three sunny days the conference was organized into three main areas; Applications (mainly electrical, gamma and x-ray); Image Reconstruction methods and Hardware (including New Modalities).

As a new PEPT (positron emission particle tracking) facility has recently been established at the iThemba labs in Cape Town, there were a number of papers in this field.

Several ITS instrument users presented results, including heterogeneous catalysis (eg Fisher Tropsch reaction which is highly relevant to South Africa’s gas to coal interests). In addition there was an interesting paper by Leeds University assessing ERT instrumentation for flow visualization against other measurement techniques.
