Meet the team: Kent Wei, R&D engineer
In this installment of our semi-regular series, Industrial Tomography Systems invites you to meet the R&D engineer responsible for developing our newly launched Reconstruction Toolsuite.
Name: Kent Wei, (魏肯特), Hsin-Yu Wei, (魏新宇)…etc.
Background: I was born in Taipei (Taiwan) and I moved to Cape Town (South Africa) when I was 15. I worked as a Technologist at Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in Pretoria, South Africa. My main duty was to design and develop micro devices (μm scale) utilising a new technology called ‘micro-fluidics’. Thereafter, I got a scholarship offer from University of Bath (United Kingdom), where I obtained my Ph.D in Electronics and Electrical Engineering. My research topic is related to one of the electrical tomography techniques: magnetic induction tomography. I joined ITS after my Ph.D degree, and work as an R&D Engineer.
Role at ITS: R&D Engineer. I am currently responsible for a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project (KTP009034), supported by the UK Technology Strategy Board (TSB). My main job role involves reconstruction algorithm researches and the development of ITS Reconstruction Tool-Suite software package. I am also doing a lot of modelling work for ITS’s new tomography sensors.
Hobbies: I am a very outgoing person. I like sports, travelling and exploring new stuff (especially food)! I also like cooking when I am at home, sweet and sour pork (pictured right) and MaPo tofu (far right) are my expertise!
Thoughts on ITS solutions: Electrical tomography is amazing! It is a state-of-the-art technology that can help solving several industrial problems!
