New z8000 instrument for measurement of rapid multi phase flows
6/6/2008
Industrial Tomography Systems in conjunction with the On-line Instrumentation Laboratory at the University of Leeds have developed a new fast tomography instrument, which can potentially be used to produce 3-D flow maps in real time.
The z8000, can capture more than 1,000 dual frames per second, which enables it to measure rapid flows or fast moving process features. Whilst our existing technology can measure and characterise multiphase flow, it can only resolve speeds of up to around 1.5 m/s. The z8000 instrument has been designed for those industries where rapid flows are present, in particular petrochems. The instrument is suitable for multi-phase systems such as the measurement of flowing oil-water systems and hydraulic conveying of slurries.

The images above are computed using the data exported from the z8000 and were produced using software developed at Leeds University and available through ITS.
z8000 applications are primarily in:
- Measurement of rapid flows
- Rapidly evolving reactions
- Slurry transportation
- Interface Detection
