Application
Hydraulic conveying research
Objectives
Determine flows of solid in a pipeline to characterise dredging systems.
Results
The amount and distribution of sand flowing through an industrial dredging pipe was successfully measured. The results have been used to develop new hydraulic conveying models to optimise the process. The models are to be tested in the near future on another dredging project.
Application
Multiphase flow characterisation
Objectives
Detect flow patterns/regime of gas-oil multiphase flow in a pipe using Electrical Capacitance Tomography.
Results
Flow pattern was successfully imaged under different operating conditions.
Application
Mixing and vessel characterisation
Objectives
Determine mixing conditions and mixing time in 3 glass vessels and 3 stainless steel bioreactors using Electrical Resistance Tomography and 5 customised linear probes.
A range of mixing vessels were characterised to improve their performance.
Application
Flow characterisation
Objectives
Measure the distribution of air at the exit or a short distance downstream from an air injection system located centrally in a pipe.
Determine the axial velocity of bubble swarms from cross correlation velocities.
Results
The distribution of air in a novel hydro power system was successfully measured. The results have allowed optimisation of the power generation system.
