In-line Sensor for the Rheological Characterisation of Materials

ITS have been awarded a Research and Development Grant from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) to evaluate the feasibility of developing a combined in-line sensor for the rheological characterisation of materials. The sensor will use both ultrasonic spectroscopy to determine the microscopic rheological properties and fast electrical impedance tomography which can image the mass flow and mean flow profile within the process pipe.
This project will provide a novel method for real time process monitoring and control of chemical processes, and ultimately produce new instruments which will replace existing offline laboratory rheological analysis. It will have a significant benefit to end users on the performance of their processes, reducing waste and increasing product quality.
