The Cape Town conference drew in around 50 delegates from 14 different countries. Over three sunny days the conference was organized into three main areas – Applications (mainly electrical, gamma and x-ray); Image Reconstruction methods and Hardware (including New Modalities). Several ITS instrument users presented results, including heterogeneous catalysis (eg Fisher Tropsch reaction which is highly relevant to South Africa’s gas to coal interests). In addition there was an interesting paper by Leeds University assessing ERT instrumentation for flow visualization against other measurement techniques.
The pulp and paper sector makes extensive use of mixing and flow of aqueous systems and these processes represent some of the strongest areas for ITS’s p2+ instrument.
ITS has boosted its workforce with the appointment of Daniel Johnston who joins the Business Development department, and Shijie Liang who becomes the fourth recent addition to the fast-growing applications team.
