ITS and PSRI (Particle Solid Research Inc) published a paper on visualising flows in circulating fluidised beds.

Reddy Karri noted “that the study confirmed expected observations of particle flows, ECT imaging of standpipes appeared to generate expected results and also highlighted the role aeration has on standpipe behaviour.Too much aeration or aeration in the wrong position can lead to the gases migrated to the centre of the standpipe.”

This project adds to the many applications of process tomography especially applicable to the mining sector, such as hydraulic and pneumatic conveying, froth flotation, phase separation, settling, mixing and other multi-phase processes.

ECT scans for a standpipe at a solids flux of 76 lb/ft2-sec (385 kg/m2- sec) with 35 SCFH (0.991 SCMH) uniform aeration and the slide valve at the 0.5-inch (1.25-cm) opening position
